Bikur Cholim and Camp Simcha Diabetes Event
Over 50 people, from across various backgrounds and locations, joined together last Wednesday evening to participate in an event which focused on the challenges of Diabetes. The crowd consisted of men and women, parents and partners from Stamford Hill, Golders Green, Hendon, Edgware and Switzerland and took place at the Aden Hall in Stamford Hill. Organised by Bikur Cholim D’Satmar in conjunction with Camp Simcha, the event was tastefully prepared and superbly arranged. There was a sense of achdus and camaraderie which permeated the hall making each participant feel welcome and part of it. The event was chaired by a parent who warmly made the introductions and then invited Rabbi Pinchos Jung shlita to provide an inspirational talk on chizuk and Emunah. Following the formal presentation, participants were invited to participate in roundtable discussions themed on specific issues and how they relate to Diabetes including some stimulating topics such as “who to tell” and “shidduchim”. The atmosphere was charged as the evening was drawn to a close and the only way the crowd agreed to disperse was with a promise that there would be similar events organised in the not too distant future. People described the event as a boost of energy giving them the strength to go on. One participant who does not speak English and could not understand the contents of what was presented said his heart had been warmed by the deep feelings of friendship and support which were clearly felt by all. New peer relationships were formed, contacts exchanged and there is no doubt that the impact of the event will continue to be felt for a long time to come.
