Who are we?
Bikur Cholim’s Emotional Health Therapy Service provides psychological help and support to young people, adults, carers and families who are experiencing emotional difficulties in their everyday wellbeing.
Our therapists are trained in the application of psychology to help alleviate stress and all have experience of working therapeutically. We have a team of Heimishe male and female therapists.
What we do:
We aim to help you feel better and have more fulfilling everyday experiences. We do this by making sense of what might be troubling you, discussing concerns about what factors might be impacting your health as well as helping identify ways to address these difficulties. We listen, ask questions and sometimes make suggestions.
When you meet with one of our therapists, you can expect to have the opportunity to reflect on past events and clarify present circumstances in a personal and meaningful way. We offer support to help you develop ways of coping and seek opportunities to promote your inner strengths.
We work with a range of clients from within the community and offer interventions based on a range of therapeutic models (e.g. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Systemic Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy). Interventions are tailored individually based on a full understanding of your needs and the changes you want to see within your life.
Who do we work with?
You may wish to access our help if you are experiencing some difficulty with managing anxiety, depression, OCD, traumatic life events or bereavements. These are just a few examples, but there are many other experiences – our mission is to provide sensitive help in a non-judgemental way.
Is this a confidential service?
Absolutely. This is a confidential service. Bikur Cholim’s Emotional Health Therapy Service is a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). All therapists are registered with the BACP and adhere strictly to Halacha and to the BACP Ethnical Framework for the Counselling Professions.
How do I get to see a member of the therapy Team?
When contacting the service, you will have an initial telephone discussion with Mrs Chontow or Mrs Scher, where they will ask some details about your current circumstances. This is to make sure you are offered the service which will best meet your needs.
How long do we see people for?
We see people for appointments lasting between 50 minutes to one hour. In your initial two meetings, your therapist will aim to hear about what is troubling you and take the opportunity to ask some clarifying questions. After these first two meetings, your therapist will aim to have an idea about how to help you and agree on a focus of your therapy work.
